Tuesday's season opener came down to the final possession but Jordan Holman's 3-point attempt was in and out at the buzzer in a 58-55 Northern Oklahoma College Lady Mavs loss to Independence Tuesday night at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

Freshman Allison Green led the Lady Mavs with 19 points while Jordan Holman added 15.

NOC trailed the Lady Pirates 42-41 heading to the fourth quarter and fell behind 55-45 midway in the period before the Lady Mavs 10-2 run to cut the lead to 57-55.  Green scored eight of the 10 NOC Tonkawa points in that Lady Mav rally.

After the Lady Pirates extended the lead to 58-55 with :13.5 left, the Lady Mavs had one opportunity to send the game to overtime but Holman's last ditch effort was in and out at the buzzer.

"Great crowd tonight," said coach Greg Krause.  "Good defense has been our strength in pre-season and it showed again tonight. Better shooting percentages will come in time. We're getting good looks. This game will make us tougher and help prepare us for what's coming. I thought our team gave great effort."

The Lady Mavs face Allen County (KS) in the Cowley Classic in Arkansas City, Kansas, Friday at 1 p.m.
