Mavs drop playoff opener to Connors 12-5

PIEDMONT, Oklahoma -- Connors broke open a 5-5 tie with seven runs over the final two innings to beat NOC Tonkawa 12-5 Thursday in the South Central District Tournament in Piedmont.

The Mavs (27-24) face Eastern Friday at 1:30 p.m in an elimination game.

NOC got off to a good start in the first as Savannah Chenoweth singled home Hannah Endicott and the game was tied at 1-1.

Trailing 4-1 in the third, the Mavs scored three runs as Kyla Storts doubled home Ryllie Shipp and then Shipp scored on a Chenoweth double.  Chenoweth would score on a Morgan Meyer sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.

NOC scored their final run when Alexandra Griffin singled home Haiden Huster in the fifth but that would be it for the Mavs.

Lauren Bratcher and Emma Enderud worked in the circle for the Mavs.
