Men's soccer ties Crowder

Crowder College and Northern played to a 1-1 tie on Sunday in the Mavs home opener.  It was Northern's first home game after opening the season with four straight road games.  The Mavs didn't take long to score.  Assanie Brown took a hard shot from the top of the box that the Crowder goalkeeper could not control.  Jaron Frye pounced on the loose ball and shot the ball into the back of the net.  Crowder would tie the game late in the first half, and that would be all of the scoring for the rest of regulation and two ten minute overtime periods.  Both teams produced great chances to score including an Assanie Brown shot that hit off the post and deflected across the goal before going over the end line just past the goal post, and Boris Nguelle who narrowly missed deflecting the ball in.

"I'm sure both teams are frustrated not to win," said coach Michael DuRoy.  It was an even game.  I thought we made some strides today to get better.  Our possession was a little better.  We have a long way to go, but we are progressing each day."

The Mavs host (1-2-1) Allen County at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
