Javontae Campbell's short jumper and Jason Hunt's two free throws sealed a 71-68 overtime Maverick win over Murray State Monday night at the Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.
The Mavs (7-14) improved to 2-6 in league play while Murray (7-14) fell to 1-6.
Monday's game was tied at 63-63 heading to overtime when a Jordan Gorecki free throw and Montrez Ward 3-pointer gave the Mavs a 67-63 lead.
After Murray scored four straight to tie the game at 67-67, Campbell drove the lane and connected on a short jumper giving the Mavs a 69-67 edge with 1:36 left. After the Aggies cut the lead to 69-68, the Mavs would get a defensive stop. Hunt then calmly hit both free throws with :14.4 to seal the win.
Mohamed Kante led the Mavs with 20 while Campbell added 16 and Tyson Brown 11 off the Mavs bench.
"I want to thank our crowd in overtime," said coach Patrick Nee. "Man, it was loud. I'm proud of our guys, it was a much needed win."
The Mavs host Southwestern JV Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
