Big second half leads Mavs past Oklahoma Wesleyan JV 91-71

The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks came alive in the second half beating Oklahoma Wesleyan JV 91-71 Monday evening at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse in Tonkawa.

NOC (5-3) was led by Syrus Grisby with 16 points while Jalen Johnson added 14 and Naadhir Wood 10.

Oklahoma Wesleyan built an 11-point first half lead against the Mavs thought the Mavs closed the gap to 43-39 at half.

The Mavs turned the game around quickly in the second half with a 25-5 run to build a 64-48 lead.

NOC controlled the second half with Wesleyan never getting closer than 13 the rest of the way.

"We came out flat and OK Wesleyan did what I told our guys they would do," said coach Brad Witherspoon.  "They packed it in and made open 3's. I thought we came out with much more energy the second half and played our game"

NOC opens conference play Thursday at Western.
