Mavs split with Western, win series

NOC Tonkawa split a doubleheader Friday against Western and won the key series between the two teams.

The Mavs (33-16) improved to 14-10 in conference while Western (32-14) is 17-7.

In Game 2, the Mavs scored four runs in the 3rd inning and held on for the 4-3 win.

Blade Carver had the big hit, a two run triple scoring Larry Edwards, Jr. and Carson Taylor.  Carver then scored on a Landen Johnson single and then later scored on an error.

Liam McKinney worked six innings allowing two earned runs on five hits.  Kaegan Baker earned the save with a scoreless 9th.

Friday's win had 7th inning drama as Western loaded the bases with no out.  Babker struck out one Western hitter then a sacrifice fly cut the lead to 4-3 but the Mavs had two outs.  The Mavs then got the third out when a Western runner tried to steal home Carson Taylor with the put out.

In Game 1, Western scored two runs in the 9th to upend the Mavs 4-2.

Blade Carver had two hits including a double while Landen Johnson and Luke Shannahan each had runs batted in.

Caleb Lunnon started for the Mavs working eight innings allowing two earned runs.  Logan Taylor suffered the loss allowing an unearned run in the 9th.

The Mavs game against Dallas Brookhaven Monday is canceled.  The Mavs are scheduled at Carl Albert Friday and Saturday.
