Mavs sweep DMACC to earn series split

The NOC Mavs swept Des Moines Area Community College 5-3 and 15-3 on Sunday to earn a split in the four game opening season weekend series.

In Game 1, the Mavs broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the fourth to earn the 5-3 win.

Mitchell Lucero scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Preston Knott and then Cash Jay doubled home Darian Duhon to give the Mavs a 5-3 lead.

Brenden Kamnick started for the Mavs will bullpen help from Nate Windle and Gage Norvell.

In Game 2, the Mavs scored eight runs in the third and seven in the fourth to rout DMACC 15-3.

Caleb Lunnon allowed just three runs on four hits to earn the win.

Offensively, Knott had three hits and three runs batted from the leadoff spot while Enrique Alvarez Jr. and Jorge Olivo had two hits each.  Olivo also scored three runs.

The Mavs host Arkansas Mountain Home Friday and Saturday at Maverick Field.
