Lady Tigers win one for Coach Clark, take down Mavericks 64-53

Coaching just days after the passing of his mother, Cowley College head coach Todd Clark was back on the sidelines leading his Lady Tiger basketball team to a 64-53 victory over the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks Wednesday night inside W.S. Scott Auditorium.

One week after defeating Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on the road, the Cowley College women's basketball team completed the sweep by holding NOC to just 28.1 percent shooting.

The Lady Mavericks made just 3-of-17 field goal attempts in the first quarter as Cowley scored the game's first eight points and led 17-8 after 10 minutes of play.

NOC was not much better in the second quarter, making only 3-of-16 field goal attempts as Cowley's lead grew to 28-16 after one half of play.

Freshman Hattie Pyle scored 13 first-half points for the Lady Tigers, while sophomore Anna Przyszlak added seven points and 10 rebounds.

NOC-Tonkawa would warm up a bit in the third quarter as Kadryn Scott scored 10 of the Mavericks' 20 points in the quarter, but Cowley would maintain a 12-point lead (48-36) heading into the final quarter of play.

A three-point play by Scott would cut Cowley's lead to 50-44 with 6:18 remaining. However, the Lady Tigers would score the next eight points and held on for the 11-point win.

Pyle led all scorers with 23 points while going 11-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Lady Tigers would finish 19-of-21 as a team from the charity stripe. Przyszlak added 17 points and 12 boards.

The victory caps an unbeaten non-conference start to the season for the Lady Tigers, as they are now 6-0. Cowley will open conference play at home on Saturday when they face Northwest Kansas Tech (1-3) at 1 p.m.
