Northern and Eastern played to a hard fought 1-1 tie in Tonkawa on Sunday.  The Mavericks scored early when Chloe Wilkins stole a pass ripped a shot past the talented Eastern goalkeeper in the fourth minute.  The Mavericks pressed the Mountaineer goal for the majority of the opening half with Eastern getting a few counter attack chances.  Unfortunately Northern was not able to capitalize on any of their chances.

Eastern gained momentum in the second half and retained more possession of the ball, but it was Northern that created the first good chance in the second half.  Celeste Maldonado beat the Mountaineer goalkeeper with a close shot, but the ball hit the post and rebounded over the end line.  Eastern created several good chances to tie the game with two breakaway opportunities, but Maverick goalkeeper, Vanessa Markl was able to make the 1v1 saves on both occasions.  However, Markl wasn't able to come up with the save on the third breakaway and Eastern tied the game 1-1 in the seventy-first minute.  Neither team could score after that with the game ending in 1-1 draw.

"I was disappointed today, and I think the girls were too," said coach Michael DuRoy.   "It feels more like a loss than a tie.  We didn't play well.  Our effort wasn't there.  Eastern outworked us today, and that is disappointing.  With Abbi Vargas being out for the year we need to make some changes in the midfield.  We have to get more speed and fitness in there.  Overall our fitness level isn't where it should be.  We have been playing games so it's hard to work on fitness in training, and we haven't been challenged in too many of our games, so when we come up against a team that pushes us physically we aren't ready.  On the bright side I thought Vanessa Markl played great in goal."
