Northern collected their fourth shutout in a row and 8th in 11 games in their 5-0 win over Murray State.

The Aggies kept the game close in the opening twenty minutes of the game despite the Mavericks dominating possession and keeping constant pressure on the Murray State goal.  Celeste Maldonado opened the scoring for the Mavs with her second goal in two games in the twenty-second minute.  Jazmine Furra had the assist.  Josie Jarvis would score moments later to put the Mavericks up 2-0.  Late in the half Sam Mendez slipped a ball through the defense to Jazmine Furra who blasted a shot past the Aggie goalkeeper.  The Mavs took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Jazmine Furra started the scoring for the Mavericks just three minutes into the second half with a long shot that floated into the top corner of the goal. Gabriela Gonzalez was credited with the assist.  Josie Jarvis scored the final goal for Northern off an assist from Heidi Wiedmeier

The Northern midfield of Abbi Vargas, Gabriela Gonzalez, Sam Mendez, Mia Yerian, Maria Perez, and Klaire Downey completely dominated the game, but the news wasn't all good.  It appears that Abbi Vargas will be out for the year with a lower leg injury.

"I thought both teams played well," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "Murray State is one of the few teams that will actually try to push some numbers forward against us.  We love it because it opens the game up.  They have some good athletes that can run with our wingers and outside backs, but our midfield was dominant today.  I'm absolutely sick about Abbi's injury.  She has played so well for us.  It's a big loss, but Klaire Downey and Maria Perez have been playing well and are ready to step up."

Northern will be back at home Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. hosting Eastern Oklahoma State.
