Mavericks Blow Out NEO

Northern had little trouble with NEO cruising to an 8-0 win on Sunday.

The Mavs used their possession based style to wear down NEO, who came out chasing hard defensively.  Milica Bulatovic scored a goal ten minutes into the game after receiving a great pass from Janet Moreno.  NEO was able to create a few chances early in the game with long shots, but Northern goalkeeper, Jaime Rowlands, was able to make two saves to keep the Norse scoreless.  Bulatovic basically put the game away with a goal late in the first half.

Northern started the second half strong with two goals coming minutes apart from Nicole Anderson and Mia Yerian.  Bulatovic assisted on both goals.  Janet Moreno scored the fifth goal midway through the second half.  Samantha Mendez scored two goals in the closing minutes, and Maverick sophomore, Taylor Phillips, scored her first career goal.

"NEO, like most teams that we play, had a game plan to defend hard and limit our chances," said coach Michael DuRoy.   "They really played hard in the beginning of the game, but we knew they couldn't maintain that effort for a full ninety minutes.  Milica's second goal right before the half kind of broke their spirit.  Our girls possess the ball so well.  It is impressive to watch.  As a coach I find myself watching almost like a fan.  They play such nice soccer.  I thought Jaime Rowlands had a good game.  NEO had a few shots that have given us problems all year, and Jaime made the saves.  It was also great to see Taylor get a goal.  We have one game left in the regular season then we move on to the playoffs.  We need to improve some things if we want to win the region championship, which is our goal."
