11th Ranked Women's Soccer wins 6th in row

MENA, Arkansas -- The 11th ranked Mavericks continue to sit atop the conference standings after a 2-0 win at Rich Mountain.  The game was played fairly evenly with the Mavs having most of the possession, but the Bucks getting a few chances on counter attacks.  Northern goalkeeper Jaime Rowlands was never really troubled, but did have to come off her line to collect a few passes in behind the Northern defense.

Mia Yerian scored what would turn out to be the game winner with a long shot over the Bucks goalkeeper's head.  Heidi Wiedmeier had the assist.  The Mavs did get another goal late in the game.  Marissa Neil got in behind the Rich Mountain defense and was fouled in the box.  Milica Bulatovic converted the penalty kick for the final goal of the game.

"We have hit that stretch in the season where players get tested," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "It's been hot every day.  We have been on the road a lot, and we are playing teams for the second time, so they are more prepared for what we do.  Practice gets old for the players this time of year.  We have to be focused and keep getting better, because that is what champions do.  We have great leadership on this team, and all of the girls are bought in."
