Mav Women Squeeze Past Eastern

Maverick Women's Soccer scored an early goal to beat Eastern 1-0.

NOC improved to 4-6-1 on the year and 4-4-1 in Region 2.

The Mavericks started the game quickly going against a strong wind and pressured Eastern straight away. Mavericks had numerous attempts on target but was denied by Eastern's goalkeeper who picked up 12 saves on the day. The Mav's would break the deadlock when Nancy Herr made a run in behind the defense, touched it around the goalkeeper and with some help from the Eastern defender put it in the back of the net. Skylar Yocham picked up the assist. Mavericks would go into the half 1-0 up.

The Mavericks continued to dominant the second half creating 15 chances however could not find the back of the net. Sofie Joergensen and Hannah Long both had two golden opportunities but their shots were matched by Eastern's goalkeeper. Overall the Mavericks outshot Eastern 27-5. Madeline Kindred picked up her fourth clean sheet of the year.

"Getting the win and dominating the game are obviously big positives for us. I felt like in the second half at times we were relaxed, and lacked a little composure in big scoring moments. Our movement up top especially in the first half was good, and we were more patient and swung the ball more side to side to open up gaps in their compacted defense. Overall it wasn't the greatest performance by us but were walking away with a win and clean sheet." Coach Ovendale.
