Lady Mavs shut out Murray

Northern Oklahoma College defeated Murray State 2-0 in NJCAA Region 2 Conference action Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Mavs improved to 4-3.

NOC used first half goals by Mayra Vega and Megan Deshazo and a stingy defense to beat Murray 2-0 Thursday afternoon.

"It is good to bounce back with a win," said coach Jade Ovendale.  "The wind played a big factor in the game yesterday and we took advantage of it in the first half. Second half it was difficult to play against however we held onto to secure the win. When it is windy conditions it is sometimes difficult to get the ball down and actually play. Megan Deshazo worked hard for us at top and grabbed an assist and goal and was unfortunate not to grab another with her shot hitting the post after a quick counter in the second half. Nicole Houston had a strong day in goal and picked up her second clean sheet of the season."

Vega scored from a Deshazo assist in the 13th minute and then Deshazo scored unassisted in the 30th minute to give NOC a 2-0 lead midway in the first half.

That's all the Lady Mavs would need as goalkeeper Nicole Houston stopped all nine Lady Aggie shots.

The Lady Mavs are 4-1 in conference play.  They travel to Seminole next Thursday.
