Lady Mavs Fall to #3 in the Nation

TYLER, Texas. - During a hot, muggy contest in 90-degree Texas heat on Friday, Tyler College (3-0)  defeated the Lady Mavs (3-1) and gave them their first defeat of the season for 4-0.

Coach Castillo knew that it was going to be a challenge to replace Kariss Dunson. She is one of the 3 captains for the team and also a leader in defense. "We knew it was going to be a challenge to replace Kariss for this game and that I had to use some of our players in positions that they haven't been playing regularly or that dominate but we had to do it. Some of those players responded very well and tried hard to do a good job. I know I put them in a hard situation but it was needed". "Tyler is a great team and they are well coached. I think the girls learned today that to play at the highest level they need to stay focused through out the week and there is no room to relax anymore. If you relax teams will make you pay for it".

Tyler dominated the game but the Lady Mavs didn't sit back and wait, they created some good opportunities to score and almost did it in the first half when Rachel Brantley played a great through ball to Megan Deshazo and Tyler's goalkeeper made the save to Deshazo's shot. Kayla Mireles also hit the cross bar in a good shot in the first half as well. It was Megan Deshazo again that after making a great individual move inside the 18' box got a shot that was again blocked by Tyler's goalkeeper.

Northern will next visit Rose State on Thursday at 3PM marking this as their first conference game of the season. Then on Sunday they will receive the visit of Murray State at 2PM.
