Northern Oklahoma Women's Soccer opened their season with a win against Blue River College 5-2. The Lady Mavs started a little bit nervous in the first minutes of the game which cause Blue River to score after the players struggled to clear the ball in the box. After that the Lady Mavs took control of the game and created countless chances to score but couldn't find the back of the net until Megan Deshazo shot and was barely deflected by the goalkeeper but not enough for Gifty Ayew Asare to score her first of the match.  Marybel Garcia crossed a perfect ball so Asare could head it in and take the lead 2-1. A couple of minutes later the Lady Mavs created another chance were Megan Mayfield couldn't connect properly and the ball barely missed the goal.  For the seond half Denise Diaz would assist Asare then after that Mayra Vega would dribble Blue River's defenders to cross a perfect ball for Asare to score her 4th goal. Finally Morgan Medina would assist Asare with a great ball over the defense and leave Asare on a 1v1 with the goalkeeper to which she finished masterfully. This game marked the official return of goalkeeper Jo McCray that couldn't partcipate last season because of an injury, she went in and played 15 mins in second half.

Coach Castillo's impressions of the game: "In this case even though the score says we scored 5 goals it doesn't really reflect what happened in the game. We created so many chances that we should've scored at least 4 or 5 more goals but the girls are still knowing eachother on the field". "We had a very tough pre season, playing extraordinary teams and pushing our team to their max trying to see what would come out of those tough situations. Fortunatelly what we saw is that the team got closer and is starting to play the way we practice but we still have a long way". "It's not everyday that a player scores 5 goals, the whole team worked hard for this result and the girls know that what matters it's the team and not who scores the goals".

Lady Mavs starting line up: Monica Davis, Aubrey Welker, Kariss Dunson, Denise Diaz, Morgan Medina, Marybel Garcia, Rebekah Brantley, Rachel Brantley, Megan Deshazo, Megan Mayfield and Gifty Ayew Asare.

The Lady Mavs next game will be Sunday when they visit ranked #7 Butler at 7pm
