Lady Mavs' depth prevails in win over Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Kansas -- Alanna Williams and Natalie Walker each scored double figures off the bench as the Lady Mavs earned their first win of the season, 73-68 at Independence Monday night.

The Mavs trailed 49-47 heading to the final quarter but outscored the Lady Pirates 26-19 in the fourth to earn the 73-68 win.  An 11-2 run early in the fourth propelled the Lady Mavs on the road.

"Our depth paid off tonight," said coach Greg Krause.  "Our reserves made some big shots and free throws down the stretch. Good team effort tonight."

Williams led the Lady Mavs with 17 and Walker added 12.

Leila Washington added 10 for NOC Tonkawa including two clutch free throws extending a 71-68 Lady Maverick lead to the 73-68 final.  Mia Callegan led the Lady Mavs with eight rebounds off the NOC bench.

The Lady Mavs (1-6) are at Butler Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.
