NOC Tonkawa dug themselves a deep hole in the first half and fell just short against Cowley (KS) 65-56 Wednesday night in Tonkawa.
The Lady Mavs trailed 31-16 at half before rallying in the third quarter scoring 29 points to cut the Cowley lead to 50-45 after three quarters.
NOC chipped away at the lead cutting the Cowley edge to 54-51 and then 56-53 with 7:08 left but could get no closer.
Allison Green and Kaydrin Scott led the Lady Mavs with 12 points each while Brooke Robertson added nine.
"We're still working on consistency," said coach Greg Krause of the slow start. "It makes everything harder when you're slow getting into a necessary game mode. We were a lot more aggressive after halftime. But that's the value of non-conference games and improving as a team. We're looking forward to two tough opponents this weekend at Enid."
The Lady Mavs (1-2) face Garden City (KS) on Friday and Butler (KS) on Saturday in the Lady Jet Classic in Enid this week.
