A depleted Maverick roster gave all they had in 1-0 overtime loss to Murray State College on Wednesday.

The first half was played mostly in the midfield with neither team creating many chances.  Northern outshot Murray 5-0 in the first 45 minutes.  It looked like the Mavs would take the lead twice in the opening stanza with a shot that rattled the crossbar, and a goal that was disallowed by the referees.

The second half was played much the same way as the first.  Neither team was able to create too many chances, but the Mavs did have two really good opportunities.  Connor Moreno looked to have beaten the keeper with a shot over his head, but the Aggie keeper tipped the ball onto the crossbar and deflected out for a corner kick.  The Mavs scored on the corner kick, but once again the goal was disallowed.  Murray State's best chance came late in the game when the referee called a foul in the box on the Mavericks that Northern coach Michael DuRoy strongly disagreed with causing him to get a yellow card.  Northern goalkeeper, Aron Kanyai, made the save to send the game into overtime.

The Aggies then won the game midway through the first overtime period.

"I'm disappointed for the guys," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "They were organized and played hard.  We wanted to slow the game down and make it come down to one kick of the ball, and it did, but unfortunately it didn't go our way.  We felt a little let down by the referees today with two goals disallowed and the late penalty kick, but our referees are fantastic.  At the time, I felt like the penalty kick was a missed call, but I haven't seen it on video yet.  I didn't have a good view on the disallowed goals so I trust that they were the right calls.  When you are struggling you need some breaks to go your way, and today they didn't.  Two crossbars and two disallowed goals are tough.  If one of those goes in we win the game in regulation."

The Mavs (1-8-2) dropped to 0-5-1 in conference play.  They host Eastern Sunday at 4 p.m.
