Northern secured their second conference championship in a row with a 7-1 win over NEO on Sunday.

It looked like the Mavs would get off to their usual fast start as Damorney Hutchinson was fouled in the penalty area resulting in a penalty kick for Northern.  However, Hutchinson missed the penalty kick keeping the score tied early in the game.  Moments later the Mavericks received some help from the Norsemen as Rahmon Oduborisa's cross into the box was misplayed by an NEO defender into their own goal.  Jaron Frye put the Mavs up 2-0 when he tapped in a cross from Damorney HutchinsonJesus Aleman essentially put the game away with two goals just two minutes apart towards the end of the first half.  The second goal came on a penalty kick.  NEO scored their lone goal of the game late in the first half when the Mavs misplayed a ball in their own box allowing a Norsemen forward to score from two yards away from the goal.

The Mavericks controlled the second half with goals from Marcovich Brown, Damorney Hutchinson, and Marko Madaras.  Northern reserve players were able to see out the rest of the game without conceding a goal.

"I give all the credit to the boys," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "Winning a championship is not easy.  It's a grind with pressure in every game.  Now we have almost two weeks to prepare for the playoffs.  We need to use the time wisely, and make some improvements in a few critical areas."

The Mavericks will play in the Region 2 Semi-Final on Friday, October 29th at 9 am in Enid at the Enid High School football stadium.  The opponent has not been determined yet.
