#18 Mavs and Rose State Tie 3-3

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- The #18 Mavericks let one slip away on Sunday at Rose State playing to a 3-3 tie.  Northern scored early, and had the lead on three separate occasions, but were not good enough defensively to hold on for the win.

Damorney Hutchinson opened the scoring for the Mavs just twelve minutes into the game after a dominating start by Northern.  Jaron Frye picked up the assist.  As has been the case almost all year long the Mavs seemed to let up after the goal.  While the Mavericks didn't concede a goal directly after going ahead they did squander the remaining time that they had the wind at their back in the first half.  Another disturbing trend for this year's Mavericks is giving up fouls around the box, and the Mavs did just that nearing the end of the first half.  Rose State easily converted the free kick to tie the game.  Damorney Hutchinson would strike again late in the first half after receiving a great pass from Marcovich Brown to put the Mavs up 2-1 at the break.

Rose State started strong with the wind at their back in the second half with an early goal that evened up the game at 2-2.  Five minutes later Assanie Brown slipped a shot past the Rose State keeper to put the Mavs up for the third time in the game.  Damorney Hutchinson had the assist.  It wouldn't be enough though as the Mavericks were unable to see the game out giving up a long shot to Rose for the equalizer.  Neither team was able to score the rest of the way resulting in the Mavs first tie of the season.

"Today's effort wasn't good enough," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "We started really well, and should have had an easy win. To the boys credit they score a lot of early goals.  The only problem is we relax after scoring them.  That has to change.  I thought we were terrible in the back today.  Our outside backs played well going forward for the most part, and both played the entire game, which is hard to do, but our centerbacks struggled today.  We were unorganized and soft.  We had twenty-two shots, twelve corners, and three goals.  You have to win on days like that.  It was really disappointing not to get it done today."
