13th Ranked Mavericks shut out National Park College

Northern traveled to Hot Springs, Arkansas, to take on National Park College on a hot Sunday afternoon.  National Park held their own against the #13 ranked Mavs for the first twenty minutes, but the next seventy minutes were dominated by Northern in an easy 6-0 win.

For those following Northern men's soccer this year it's easy to pick the nation's leading scorer Damorney Hutchinson to lead the Mavs.  Hutchinson put Northern on top with an assist from Marcovich Brown.  Moments later Brady Hawkins scored his first goal as a Mav when the Nighthawks failed to clear a corner kick.  The Hawks would help the Mavs out a few minutes later with an own-goal off of Josh Bell's cross into the box.  Northern took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.

Kai Lewis started the Mavericks off quickly in the second half with a goal off of a Marcovich Brown corner kick just minutes after the break.  Rahmon Oduborisa blasted in a shot to put Northern up 5-0 with an assist from Hutchinson.  Hutchinson scored the last goal for the Mavs with an assist from Dylan Gwyther.  Northern played the last thirty minutes with reserve players and created several chances, but the National Park goalkeeper was able to make some great saves to keep the score 6-0.

NOC outshot National Park 17-4.  Keeper Harry Archer stopped three National Park shots for a clean sheet.

"I was happy that the guys were able to get a shutout," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "National Park was clearly outmatched here today, but they played hard, and we have been giving up soft goals all year, so I was pleased with the boys' effort defensively.  There are still a lot of areas that we can get better, so this week will be important for us to be focused in training."
