Men's Soccer stays unbeaten in conference

13th ranked Northern solidified it's position at the top of Region 2 with a convincing 4-2 win over a good Rose State team.   The win improved the Mavs to 5-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play.

As it seems to be almost every game Northern got an early goal from Damorney Hutchinson.  The goal came against the run of play on a counter with Maverick midfielder Lewis Albert playing the ball to the speedy Jamaican forward.  The game went back and forth for much of the first half with Rose State possessing the ball more in the Northern end creating five corner kicks in the first half.  However, it was Northern that would score the next goal.  Once again it was Hutchinson who scored after receiving a pass from fellow Jamaican, Daniel Clarke.  Rose State would answer two minutes later to draw within one goal at the break.

Northern came out of the break strong dominating possession and scoring an early goal by Jesus AlemanMarcovich Brown was credited with the assist.  Late in the game Hutchinson would score again putting the game out of reach at 4-1.  Marcovich Brown had the assist.  After the goal Northern emptied the bench and Rose State picked up a goal a minute later to make the final score 4-2.

"I give the boys credit," said coach Michael Duroy. "We made some big changes after the last game, and they did a good job adapting to them.  Damorney Hutchinson is playing on another level right now.  He is so fast and strong that he is tough to stop.  I am concerned though that we give up so many goals immediately after we score.  We have been doing it all year, and it has to stop.  We also give up too many corners and free kicks.  It's good to be on top of the conference, but we can still play a lot better."
