Hutchinson's hat trick leads Mavs past Dodge City

Damorney Hutchinson scored three goals and the Mavericks needed all of them to slip past a quality Dodge City team 4-3 Saturday in Tonkawa.

The win improved the #19 Mavs to 4-0 on the season.

The Mavs got on the board first as they have in every game so far with a goal from Hutchinson.  Jesus Aleman picked up the assist.  Dodge City would even the game before halftime with a goal off a free kick from just outside the box.

Dodge City struck first early in the second half with a nice build up that led to a goal.  Northern would even it up late in the game off a long free kick from Kareem Williams.  A minute later the Mavs would take the lead again.  Brayan Rodriguez flicked a ball on to Hutchinson who beat a defender and his shot to the lower left of the goal rolled just past the goalkeepers fingers.

An already back and forth game would get crazier in the final few minutes.  Dodge City evened the game up when the Mavs failed to clear a ball from just outside the box.  A Dodge City midfielder picked up the ball and beat the keeper, Harry Archer, with a shot.  It looked like the game was headed for overtime until Jesus Aleman played a ball to Hutchinson, who got in behind the Dodge City defense before being fouled in the box.  Hutchinson stepped to the spot with just eight seconds left to play and blasted the ball past the diving Dodge City goalkeeper.

"Dodge City is a very well coached, classy team," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "I applaud them.  They played very well today,  The game could have went either way.  It was the first time this year we have really been challenged and that was great for us.  Damorney is so dangerous.  Anytime he gets the ball he has a chance to score."

"We can learn a lot from this game," he added.  "We need to tweak a few things in how we defend up front."

The Mavs are on the road Tuesday at Allen County (KS) Community College.
