Mavs not satisfied with win

On the scoreboard the Mavs had an easy 4-2 win over Pratt Community College, but in reality the game was full of mistakes and poor play by Northern.

The two bright spots for the Mavericks were their ability to score another early goal, and they were by far the more fit team on the day.  Damorney Hutchinson as he has done so many times through his career put the Mavs out in front just ten minutes into the game.  However, the lead didn't last long as the Beavers scored a little over one minute later.  Northern would strike again late in the first half as Jesus Aleman passed the ball to Jaron Frye just outside the box.  Frye curled a shot into the far post to give the Mavs the lead at the half.

Pratt opened the scoring in the second half off of two huge mistakes by the Mavs.  The game wasn't tied long as Damorney Hutchinson put the Mavericks back in front with a goal.  Marcovich Brown picked up the assist.  This time Northern was able to extend the lead with another goal by Frye with fifteen minutes left in the game.  The Mavericks were able to dominate the rest of the game as the Beavers looked completely exhausted.

"It wasn't our best game," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "We have to find a way to be better and that's on me.  I have to be a better teacher.  We have had so many people out with quarantine and injuries that it has been hard to get any continuity.  Jake Gadsden played today and it was the first time he had been in with a full eleven in a game or training.  That is hard to do.  We had eight players out today, and that does not count George Sanchez, who is out for the year with a knee injury.  This team has a ton of potential because we have so many players that can score, but we have to find two players that can hold down the center midfield.  We also need to be much more organized defensively."

The win improved the Mavs to 2-0 on the season, NOC hosts Rich Mountain Sunday.
