Morgan's 30 points leads Mavs over Seminole

SEMINOLE, Oklahoma -- The 9th ranked Northern Oklahoma College Mavs (27-3) were 80-68 winners at Seminole Thursday night.

The Mavs face Seminole at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee Thursday at 8 p.m. in the first round of the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament.

The Mavs were led by freshman Tyrel Morgan with 30 points while Demaree King added 24 in the 80-68 win over the Trojans.  Morgan added 13 rebounds.

NOC led 45-31 at half but couldn't shake Seminole who outscored the Mavs 37-35 in the second half.

"It was a very physical game," said coach Donnie Jackson.  "We got off to a slow start at the beginning, we called a timeout and then made a run to tie it.  We then extended the lead to 14 at half.  Tyrel (Morgan) was big for us in the first half."

"The second half was back and forth for a while, they cut the lead to five two different times," he added.  "Demaree (King) made some tough plays down the stretch that helped us seal the game."

"We play Seminole again in the Region 2 Tournament," he said.  "We will need to be a lot better if we are going to advance.  They are different than any other team in our league because they are so big.  We can't play their game."
