Mavs put away pesky Jets

ENID, Oklahoma --  The 12th ranked NOC Mavs went on a 13-0 midway in the second half pulling away from rival NOC Enid 76-56 Thursday night at Enid.

The Mavs (12-1) improved to 1-1 in OCAC Conference play with Thursday's win.  The Jets (7-6) fell to 1-2 in conference action.

NOC was led by Demaree King with 21 points while Avante Lederer added 18 and JD Ray 13.

"I'm proud of our guys for finding a way to be 1-1 in the conference," Jackson said.  "We wanted to get the taste of losing to NEO last week out of our mouth.  We got off to a good start and kept our energy pretty consistent throughout the game."

"I was really proud of the way Avante (Lederer) came out ready to play," Jackson added.  "JD (Ray) had a big stretch for us in the second half while Malik (Crawford) and Syrus (Grisby) did a fantastic job on post defense."

The Mavs held Jet post player Josh Perkins scoreless on the night.  Perkins was the NJCAA National Player of the Week two weeks ago.

Ray had 13 points but 11 of the 13 came in a second half stretch where the Mavs built a 17 point lead over the Jets.

King had 17 points in the first half for NOC scoring a game high 21 total.

The Mavs jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and built a 40-30 lead at half.  The Jets cut the lead to 50-46 before the Mavs big second half run put the game away.

"We have to continue getting better defensively and we have to improve on how much we have been fouling," Jackson added.
