#17 Mavs rally past Cowley 102-94

The #17 NOC Mavs rallied from 12 points down to remain unbeaten with a 102-94 win over Cowley College Tuesday at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

NOC trailed 74-62 midway in the second half finally tying the Tigers at 85-85 with 3:29 left.

The Mavs took their first lead of the second half at 87-85 on a Demaree King layup and never trailed the rest of the way.

NOC led 89-86 with 1:35 but went on a 9-0 run to take a 98-89 lead with :27 left in the game.

King and Pipo Grafals each made two free throws in the game's final seconds to seal the 102-94 win.

Demaree King led the Mavs with 26 while Tyrel Morgan had 21.  Barron Tanner added 15 while Syrus Grisby added 11 and Deaveon Bankston 10.

"I'm not quite sure how we won our game last night," said coach Donnie Jackson.  "I will give all the credit to the guys never quitting.  We got down 12 and things did not seem to be going well at all and we would give any momentum we had right back to Cowley."

"Fortunately, Demaree (King) took control of the game by attacking downhill and Barron (Tanner) hit a big time shot to tie the game up," Jackson said.   Pipo (Grafals) was excellent the last two minutes of the game and had eight points in the that stretch.  That was after he rolled his ankle and didn't play much at all in the second half."

"I hope this is a learning experience for our guys on the team," Jackson continued.  "We did not play our best game, and I give Cowley all the credit for that, but we did find a way to win.  We need to clean a few things up.  We have one last game Thursday versus Bethel before our conference opener against NEO.  They are predicted to win our league and they also have two preseason first team All-Region Players, as well as the Preseason Player of the Year.  We need to have a great next few days."

After a sluggish first half, both teams improved their games offensively as the Mavs outscored Cowley 67-61 in the second half.

NOC (8-0) swept the season series over Cowley (6-2)
