NOC Controls Second Half in Victory Over Bucks

Tonkawa, Oklahoma – The Rich Mountain women's soccer team (1-7-2 overall, 1-4-2) traveled to Northern Oklahoma College (4-6 overall, 3-4) on Thursday afternoon for a Region II match. After a scoreless first half, NOC took control early and never looked back. The Bucks fell 4-0.

To start the match, both teams looked evenly matched as they traded possession and shots. The Bucks would take possession and get 2 shots from Isabel Martinez (New Hamburg, Ontario) and Madison Zamudio (Mansfield, TX) before the Lady Mavericks would counter with 3 shots of their own. The Bucks would regain possession, and Monica Boyes (Abilene, TX) got in on the action with a shot of her own that was saved by the Mavs defense. The Bucks would come up empty on the corner. NOC took their last shot of the half, but the Bucks' goal keeper, Arcelia Marquez (Lubbock, TX), shut the door to end the half, 0-0.

The Lady Mavericks looked to start fast in the second half and did. Just 34 seconds in, #7 Janet Moreno found the back of the net after a counter on the opening kickoff. Almost 2 minutes later, NOC scored again off of a corner kick that deflected off of a Bucks defender into the goal to go up, 2-0. The Bucks would counter as Zamudio with another shot. After a UARM corner kick, Martinez would fire away again but came up empty. NOC would take control and made it count. In the 57th minute, #17 Sofie Joergensen would connect on a girl of her own. Five minutes later, Emma Peak would find the back of the net off of her corner kick to extend the Mavs lead to 4-0. The Bucks countered with 3 shots by Zamudio, Martinez, and Boyes, but the Mavs goal keeper #1 Madeline Kindred and the Mavs defense would close the door. NOC would control the rest of the match and win 4-0.

On the afternoon, NOC would outshoot the Bucks 24 (11 on goal) to 9 (6 on goal). NOC's keeper recorded 4 saves, while Arcelia Marquez would have 7 in the match. The Mavs had 7 corner kicks to the Bucks 2. The match would wrap up the first round of Region II play.

The women will be back in action on Sunday, October 6th, at Bearcat Stadium against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 1 pm.
