The T-Birds ended the weekend with a 93-48 win over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on Saturday, Nov. 16.
NMJC and Tonkawa were knotted up at eight apiece with 15:46 to go in the first half. The T-Birds took control and pushed it to a 19-point lead with a 22-3 run over the next nine minutes of play.
The T-Birds led at the half 45-23 over the Mavs. The Thunderbirds continued to pull away in the second half outscoring the Mavs 48-25 to win by 45 points, 93-48.
Redshirt sophomore guard Amhad Jarrard was 5-of-7 from the field finishing with 16 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes of play. Guard Armon Jarrard scored nine points, snagged six rebounds, and four steals.
Sophomore Jayden Spearman finished with career highs in points and 3-point makes, going 7-for-11 from beyond the arc to post 21 points. He was two buckets shy of tying the school record of nine made threes.
Deuce Benjamin scored 11 points in the win over Tonkawa. The redshirt sophomore has reached double figures in 5-of-7 games so far this year.
Redshirt freshman Rodrigo Farias finished with four assists and forward Seydou Tamboura recorded six rebounds. Victor Ezeh went 2-for-3 from three-point land and finished with four assists and 10 points.
The T-Birds shot 28-for-58 (48.3%) from the field, 12-of-34 (35.3%) from the 3-point line, and 25-of-31 (80.6%) from the free throw line. The Thunderbirds forced 17 turnovers, held the Mavericks to 23.2% from the field and 26.1% from three-point land.
The No. 20 Thunderbirds improve to 7-0 and play next against Weatherford College on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 12 p.m. MST inside the Caster Activity Center.
