Highland Women's Basketball Opens Season With Pair of Wins at Allen CC Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The #3 Highland women's basketball team opened the season with a 2-0 showing on the road at the Allen Community College Tournament beating Bacone College (Okla.) 139-27 to open the season and topping Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa 73-59, also.

Scotties opened the season in dominating fashion with a 139-27 win over Bacone College (Okla.) and took control of the game early outscoring Bacone 39-4 in the first quarter and held Bacone to three points in the fourth quarter cruising to the win holding Bacone to 19% shooting and forced 26 turnovers. Highland shot 51% from the floor and 35% from three-point range in the win with seven players finishing with double figures.

A trio of 21-point scorers led the Scotties in the win as Janiya Davis, Stefania Chiziane and Tymia Wallace notched the mark. Davis five assists and five rebounds, while Chiziane posted four steals, four assists and four rebounds and Wallace had five rebounds and four steals. Tuana Dinc and Daisah Purnell each scored double figures with 19 and 16 points. Dinc added eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Tiana Gipson scored 13 points seven assists and three rebounds, while Erin Randle had 10 points and eight rebounds.

On Saturday it was a tighter battle for the Scotties as Highland took on Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa and picked up 73-59 win. By halftime Highland held a 44-29 lead over the Mavericks and used that to push themselves to the win.

Three double figure scorers led Highland in the win as Davis scored 18 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Dinc posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Wallace tallied 12 points.

The Scotties open the season with a pair of wins to start the year 2-0 and now gear up for the home opener on Tuesday, November 6th against Native Dream at 7:00pm and then host University of St. Mary JV on Thursday, November 8th at 6:00pm.
