Northern shut out a good Rose State team 3-0 in Midwest City Wednesday.  The #14 Mavs are 13-2-2 on the year

The Mavericks got off to a slow start with some uncharistically poor passing giving up possession of the ball early in the game.  However the Mavs were able to settle into the game and score the only goal they would need twenty-three minutes into the game.  Heidi Wiedmeier broke down the left side of the field and crossed a ball into the box that was mishandled by the Raiders goalkeeper.  Chloe Wilkins pounced on the loose ball and scored the opening goal.  Northern had several more good chances in the first half, but the Rose State goalkeeper made five saves to keep the Raiders close.

Northern came out much stronger in the second half after an initial surge by Rose State the Mavs controlled the ball for almost the entirety of the second frame.  Sam Mendez put the game out of reach with a goal.  Northern assist leader Jazmine Furra played the ball to Mendez.  Just over ten minutes later Northern defender Lexi Albright would score her first goal as a Mav heading in a corner kick by Furra.  The Mavs controlled the ball for the rest of the game, and had several chances to score launching eighteen shots in the second half, but were denied from putting anymore points on the scoreboard.

"I was really disappointed in our warmup and the start to the game," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "We weren't sharp at all, but we got better as the game went on.  We were really good in the second half.  Despite not scoring any goals I thought Luana San Miguel was great today, and Sam Mendez played well in the second half.  We have a ton of respect for Rose.  They are well coached and have good players.  It's never easy beating them." 

With the win the Mavericks have secured a second place conference finish and will play an opponent to be determined on October 28th at 3:30 at the Advance Soccer Complex in Enid, Oklahoma.

Northern will wrap up their regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. hosting Rich Mountain College.
