MIAMI, Oklahoma -- Northern faced more adversity on the bus ride than they did in the 4-0 win over NEO on Sunday in Miami, Oklahoma.

With the win, NOC is now 10-2-2 on the year and 7-1-2 in conference play.  NOC is in second place behind Seminole State.

The Mavericks bus had a tire blow out on the trip to Miami, which caused the Mavs to show up an hour late to the game, which led to the ladies getting off the bus, changing clothes, getting a quick stretch in, and kicking off the game.  Northern started the game a little sluggish, but found their way midway through the first half on a goal by Heidi WiedmeierMaria Perez had the assist.  Northern would strike again with a game breaking goal just before halftime by Klaire Downey off an assist by Heidi Wiedmeier.  Despite not playing to their full potential in the first half the Mavs racked up eighteen shots and allowed only two shots with one being on goal.

The second half would be completely dominated by the Mavericks as Northern scored two goals within a minute of each other in the first five minutes after the kickoff.  Maverick leading goal scorer, Jazmine Furra scored the first goal off an assist by Gabriela GonzalezJosie Jarvis scored the second goal of the half with an assist from Luana San Miguel.  The Mavs wouldn't score again in the game, but completely dominated possession of the ball outshooting the Norse seventeen to zero in the second half.  Vanessa Markl and Larissa Haagsma teamed up in goal for the shutout.

"I was proud of how the girls handled the situation, arriving late," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "It took us a while to get really into the game, but when we did we never really gave NEO a chance.  I thought Heidi Wiedmeier was the best player on the field.  She shuts her side down defensively and is dangerous going forward.  Obviously the same could be said on the other side as well with Josie Jarvis.  She is fourth in the region in scoring with nine goals as a right back.  That speaks to the type of player she is and the style of soccer that we play.  Our two centerbacks, Lexi Albright and Cierra Gann, were dominant, and Jayden Dobbs played some good minutes in there as well."
