NEOSHO, Missouri -- The 17th ranked Mavericks easily defeated Crowder College on Tuesday 4-0.

The Mavs are now 9-2-2 on the season, they travel to NEO on Sunday.

Crowder, as most teams do against the powerful Mavs, packed the back and tried to keep the game close.  The strategy worked well in the first half as the Roughriders held the Mavericks scoreless for the first forty minutes of the contest despite Northern battering the Crowder goal with eighteen shots.  In the 40th minute Chloe Wilkins was able to head a ball to Luana San Miguel in the box.  San Miguel beat the Crowder goalkeeper with a shot to put the Mavericks up 1-0 at the half.  Crowder did not register a shot in the first half, and only crossed midfield a few times.

Chloe Wilkins continued her stellar play with an early goal in the second half off an assist from Josie Jarvis.  Jarvis, the Maverick right back, scored the next goal with Klaire Downey getting credit for the assist.  Jazmine Furra would round out the scoring for the Mavs with a goal off of a free kick to make the score 4-0.  Vanessa Markl and Larissa Haagsma teamed up in goal for the shutout, although neither registered a save as Crowder only had two shots on the day with neither on goal.  The Mavericks ended the day with thirty-six shots, twenty-two on goal, forcing the Roughrider goalkeeper to make eighteen saves.  Northern also added to their nation leading corner kick tally with fourteen corner kicks.

"I was pleased with our girls ability to not get frustrated when playing a bunkering defense and not converting on scoring chances," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "That showed their maturity.  We have a veteran group of players that like having the ball anyway so if teams are going to sit back and let us play we are happy to do that.  We knew it was only a matter of time before one would go in and that is all it would take to win the game.  When teams play that style of game, putting everything they have into defending, it is very deflating to give up a goal.  That is why we usually score goals in bunches after the first one goes in."
