Women's Soccer drops second in row

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -- The #9 Mavericks traveled to Midwest City for their eighth straight road game against #18 Rose State.  The Raiders would hand the Mavericks their second straight loss 3-0.

Northern started well with great possession, but the Mavs couldn't find the last pass to beat the Rose State defense.  Eleven minutes into the game Northern passed the ball back to the goalkeeper, who made a pass directly to a Rose State forward in the box.  Rose State was able to shoot the ball into the empty net for the easy goal.  It would be the only goal of the first half.

Northern made a goalkeeper change at halftime, but the play at the position did not improve.  Just two minutes into the second half Rose State took a long lazy shot that hit the goalkeeper right in the hands, but was dropped in the goal for another Raider goal.  Midway through the second half the Raiders were able to tack on another goal to make the final score 3-0.

"It has been a tough stretch on the road," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "The girls have played well for the most part, but they are ready to play at home.  I think most people know that our number one goalkeeper has been out for the entire year.  It has been a struggle at that position all year.  We aren't expecting them to be great, but we need them to be somewhere approaching average.  We have given up way too many goals where the ball could have easily been caught or our goalkeepers are just passing the ball to an opponent in our box.  We are at the point now where we have to try a field player in goal.  I hate to do that, but if our goalkeepers can not get more consistent with the simple things then we are going to have to make the switch."
