12th Ranked Women's Soccer Wins at Eastern

WILBURTON, Oklahoma -- It was a tale of two halves in Wilburton on Thursday.  Northern looked amazing in the first half controlling possession and scoring three goals, and lethargic in the second half getting outscored 2-1 in a 4-2 win.

The Mavs (9-1) lead Region 2 with a 7-1 record.

Marissa Neil opened the scoring for the Mavs twelve minutes into the game, heading in a corner kick from Janet Moreno.  Moments later Jazmine Furra put the Mavericks up by two goals after receiving a pass from Milica Bulatovic.  Bulatovic would pick up another assist two minutes later slipping a pass to Janet Moreno who beat the keeper to finish the scoring for the first half.

Eastern looked completely outclassed in the first half, but came out in the second half with much more energy and scored an early goal over the head of Maverick goalkeeper, Jaime Rowlands.  It would take Northern just thirty seconds to respond as Chloe Wilkins played a perfect cross into the box which Bulatovic tapped by the goalkeeper to make the score 4-1.  Eastern would score the final goal with a shot that went between the Mavs goalkeeper's legs.

"Our girls played as well in the first half as I have ever seen a Maverick team play," said coach Michael DuRoy.  "We had passing sequences that covered the whole field while putting ten to twelve passes together.  It was amazing to watch. I couldn't have been more pleased.  The second half was something we can learn from.  We looked tired and uninterested.  Having said that we shouldn't have given up two goals.  Our goalkeepers, no matter which one plays, have to be more competitive.  We have given up way too many soft goals this year.  We have a week to practice before our next game.  We will get some fitness and goalkeeper training in this week."
