Mavs Tie Murray

Mavs Tie Murray

After 110 minutes of play, Mavs and Murray State settled with a 1-1 tie.

The game started off slowly with both teams not generating any real clear opportunities at the goal. The ball was circulating around midfield for majority of the half and either team could break through eachothers defenses.

Second half both teams woke up. Mavs had a great opportunity to take the lead when Skylar Yocham crossed the ball into Maddie Cochran who popped it over the bar. Skylar Yocham created her own opportunity at goal when she won the ball and dribbled three Murray players, however her shot was saved by Murray's goalkeeper. Murray would get the first goal in the 60th minute. Murray won a freekick out wide and served it into the box, unfortuantely the ball was headed in by a Mav player. The Mavs responded 15 minutes later when Skylar Yocham dribbled past their right back and calmy crossed into Tilly Wills who took a couple of touches and smashed it into the back of the net.

Neither team would find the back of the net again in overtime.

"The game was sort of flat at the beginning Murray didn't really come out and attack us too much and we didn't really take advantage of the strong wind within the game. We changed some things at half time which helped us generate more shots at goal and have more possession, however we missed a couple of good opportunities that would see us win the game.  We are missing both of our starting center backs, so Sofie Joergensen and Emma Peak both had to drop back into those positions for us and they did excellent. I thought Ariana Ramirez when she came on gave us a lot of energy and upped the tempo." Coach Ovendale.
