Mavs' women lose double overtime heartbreaker

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma --  The NOC Women's Soccer Team gave 10th ranked Rose State all they wanted Wednesday afternoon but lost 1-0 in two overtimes in the conference opener.

NOC (1-3) was out shot 17-15 by the Lady Raiders.

"We were fantastic," said NOC coach Jade Ovendale.  "Rose on the road is always a tough place to play that carries a lot of history with it. There has been some great battles there between the two sides over the years. Both teams have come away with victories in the past, however unfortunately we were on the losing side this time."

Both teams had seven shots each in the first half but both keepers made some clutch saves.  Rose then connected on a cross in double overtime to earn the 1-0 win.

"Despite the loss I am proud of our ladies and their performance," Ovendale said.  "The ladies really dug in deep and worked hard for one another. It was a battleground out there and the game really could of swung either way. Goalkeeper Madeline Kindred was solid for us and made some top saves. Skylar Yocham and Janet Moreno movement up front was good and Yocham was a menace up top and caused Rose's defense a lot of issues. Our midfield worked really hard and gave us everything they had, they made it very difficult for Rose to gain momentum. Our back line was tremendous too. We still have a lot of growth to see on this team which is exciting. We need to continue working hard in training and trust in this process."

NOC travels to Eastern Sunday afternoon.  Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. in Wilburton.
