Mavs lose to Cowley

ARKANSAS CITY, Kansas --The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks dropped a Wednesday night game to Cowley College 5-1 in Arkansas City.

The Mavs are 0-2 on the season.

NOC trailed 4-0 before Maddie Cochran scored her second goal of the season cutting the lead to 4-1.  Cowley then added a late goal to win 5-1.

The Mavericks started off quickly but gave up an own goal off a Cowley corner kick. Ten minutes later Cowley scored a second with a nice finish from their center forward.

Cowley scored two early goals in the second half, then Cochran gave NOC a goal with a great free kick that sailed over their goalkeeper. Cowley then completed the game with a converted penalty kick.

"We really struggled to find any rhythm when in possession which hurt us a lot," said head coach Jade Ovendale.  "We didn't create a ton of strong chances and they caused us some problems up top. Overall it wasn't our best game and we have to learn to deal with adversity in games when it comes to conceding goals."

"We have two more opportunities to test some ideas before conference opens up. Every mistake or loss we take there is an opportunity for us to learn and correct, the more we learn about ourselves early on the better in the long run it will be for us as a team."

The Mavericks travel to Iola, Kansas for game at Allen County Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
