Lady Mavs shut out Murray State

TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma--The Lady Mavs (6-5-1) remain in 3rd place in NJCAA Region 2 with a 1-0 win over Murray on Sunday.

Megan Deshazo's 6th goal of the year came on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute giving the Lady Mavs a 1-0 lead and Madeline Kindred stopped three Murray State shots to earn the shut out.

"I am really happy with the win against Murray State," said coach Jade Ovendale.   "We had to change a little bit of how we played due to the conditions of the field because of all the rain we have had state wide."

"The game was a little uglier and we kept it simple at the back," she added.  "I thought our back line had a fantastic game, barely put a foot wrong. Outside backs Emma Peak and Marybel Garcia were fantastic all game, they got up and down the line constantly and really caused them some problems."

"We had some great chances in the first half but couldn't break the deadlock, "Ovendale added.  "The buildup play up to the penalty kick was fantastic. There were moments throughout the game we played some really good soccer, our passing and movement was some of the best we have done all year.

"The last couple of performances from the girls have been good," she said.  "The attitudes and energy before these past two games have really been fantastic and have set the tone for the performances. We need to keep building on these performances and continue working hard in training."
