Lady Mavs lose second straight to ranked opponent

Northern Oklahoma College's Lady Mavs Soccer dropped their home opener Wednesday to 12th ranked Butler 4-0 in Tonkawa.

Butler scored two goals in each half, the final goal coming in the game's final minutes.

"Butler came out strong from the start, they have a good team this year," said interim head coach Jade Ovendale.  "They were more organized than we were which is understandable. We made some mistakes which cost us goals, however these types of mistakes are fixable. We have all the pieces, we just have to keep putting it together to create the final picture. We have a week to put in the work and re-organize for NEO next week."

NOC's best opportunity to avoid the shut out came late in the second half when a shot hit the goal post.

13th ranked NOC (0-2) had defeated Butler (2-2) the previous two meetings.

The Lady Mavs will open NJCAA Region 2 play Sept. 6 hosting NEO at 2 p.m.
