Sophomore Recognition Day

Sophomore Recognition Day

Tonkawa, Ok

It was a sunny but windy day in Tonkawa. It was also filled with emotions since the sophomores played their last home game of the regular season against NEO.

The wind didn't help much but this didn't stop Northern to start the game attacking and it would only take 3 minutes for Gifty Asare to play a nice through ball that allowed Megan Deshazo to put the ball in the back of the net to score her 4th consecutive goal in the last 4 games. Gifty Ayew Asare would score her 20th goal of the season after receiving a pass from Aubrey Welker at 19:38. Rebekah Brantley was a constant threat for the NEO defenders, she was a recovering ball machine and also received a foul inside the box for a penalty kick that Aubrey Welker would convert for her 7th goal in the season.

For the second half the Lady Mavs continued to attack from all the sectors in the field and would find success again after Rebekah Brantley would get a rebound outside the box and with a well placed shot defeat NEO's goal keeper once again. NEO responded in a fast break by Ashya Butler and scored what would be their only goal in the game.

At 75 minutes Morgyn Knell received a pass from Kayla Mireles and finished with an amazing left foot shot that was placed upper 90 for the final goal in the game.

Game Impressions.

Coach Castillo: "We love our sophmores and want to thank them for all their effort and hard work. We still have 2 games left and we will work hard to get good results and be ready to face the Regional Tournament"
