Back Again!

Back Again!

El Reno, OK

After suffering of a loss in their aim last Thursday the Lady Mavs came out on Sunday determined to try to finish the chances they had against Redlands.

It was a very windy afternoon in El Reno and that complicated things for the Lady Mavs at the beginning of the game. It actually wasn't the best start for Northern and they struggled some in the back. But with all that Gifty Ayew Asare was able to score her 18th goal of the season with a powerful left foor shot in the first half. Redlands answered back almost right away in a moment of confusion for the Norhtern defenders. Coach Juan de Dios Castillo decided to put in Mayra Vega, who has been recovering from a foot injury. She almost immediately started creating many opportunities and was driving the Redlands defenders crazy. A little before halftime Vega received a ball on the left corner and managed to dribble 2 defenders, turned back around quickly to pull an amazing shot that went far post and left the goalkeeepr with no chance and gave Northern a 2-1 halftime score.

In the second half the Lady Mavs went back to their game and dominated the entire field, creating many opportunities to increase the scoreboard. An amazing pass by Denise Diaz to a great run by Kayla Mireles on the right flank left a defender behind.  Mireles passed the perfect ball for Asare to score her second goal of the day (19th on the season). Megan Deshazo scored her 3rd goal in 3 consecutive games to put her at 5 goals in the season.

Game Impressions

Coach Castillo: "The difference between this game and last Thursday's was that today we were able to reflect on the scoreboard what happened during the game. I am happy because we started to recover some of the players that had been out for some time. Mayra Vega is going to be very important for us as well as Jaycie Calderon that is about to be released. We are expecting great things from these 2 players and they are going to be ready at the most important time of the season".

Lady Mavs move to 12-1 (7-0)
