One of Those Games.

One of Those Games.

Tishomingo, Ok

Last Thursday was one of those games where there's only one team on the field and it was the Lady Mavs. It was again one of those games that didn't reflect what truly happened in the game. Northern had total control of the match creating multiple chances to score but it was one of those days were you can't just find the back of the net. However this didn't stop the Lady Mavs and kept working and creating spaces in a very defensive proposal from Murray State. It wasn't that Murray did a great job defending (they did to a certain point) but it was more that Northern missed the clear chances they had. Denise Diaz played amazing in the midfield dominating in the air, connecting and creating chances for the midfielders and forwards.

Within 12 mins of the first half Kayla Mireles had 2 clear 1v1 chances against the goalkepper but her shots went just wide enough to miss the goal. Rachel Brantley hit the cross bar in a free kick, Gifty Ayew Asare hit the post in a couple of ocassions. It would end up being a total of 24 shots for Northern and only 2 for Murray.

Northern never quit pressing, connecting and trying to generate more chances and at the 82:20 min mark Asare would have a fast break between 2 defenders and passed the ball to Megan Deshazo that would take a strong low shot near post to defeat Murray's goal this is Deshazo. The scoreboard says only 1-0 but the reality was another.

Game Impressions

Coach Castillo: "I like how our team will go to any field and play an attacking and agressive futbol. The scoreboard doesn't reflect what truly happen in the game but that's futbol sometimes. Let's just say Murray was very lucky today. It will always be easier to destroy than to build and my team is a team that likes to build".

Rachel Brantley: "I don't like teams that play like that because it's just playing not to lose and not play actual soccer. Very frustrating but we need to learn from this and keep working".
