A Gifted Afternoon

A Gifted Afternoon

Tonkawa, OK

Thursday afternoon was a good day for Gifty Ayew Asare. She has been nominated recently to participate on an international friendly game in France playing with Ghana's main national team and yesterday for the second time in the season she scored 5 goals in one game for a total of 15 so far in the season.

The game was a bit difficult in the first half because Seminole came out like all the teams do when they visit Northern and that is in a very defensive proposal. Majority of times they sit back with many numbers waiting for a counter attack or a set piece that can give them the chance to score. The Lady Mavs dominated the entire game creating chance after chance. It took 11 minutes for Northern to score the first goal after Asare received a pass from Denise Diaz (4th assist of the season). Seminole found the goal that tied the game at the moment in a corner kick but it was helped by a weak display of marking from the Lady Mavs players. It took 40 seconds for the Lady Mavs to respond after Seminole's goal and in a fast and precise combination of passes Megan Mayfield had a clear chance to score but her shot was saved by Seminole's goal keeper. Then at 33:21 Asare would score the 2-1 at half time.

Coach Castillo's sent his team out for the second half with the same mission of pressing high and attack. The team created multiple chances to score with both Rachel and Rebekah Brantley hitting the post. But it was Gifty that would convert again at 55:29, 67:59 and 71:36. Before the game was over Northern got another opportunity to score on a penalty kick that was converted by freshman Aubrey Welker. This is Welker's 6th goal in the season, not bad for a defender.

Gifty Asare's impressions: " I thank God for making this game a succesful one for me and my team, secondly I want to thank my teammates for working hard on the field together. I worked hard on the game for my goals but then again it was the whole team effort so I'm proud of everyone".
