Northern Women's Beat Redlands

Tonkawa, Ok

The Lady Mavs beat Redlands Community College (4-1) on Thursday for 2-0. It was a game of contrasts. The first half the Lady Mavs controlled the game entirely and creating good opportunities to score. Gifty Ayew Asare took a shot that hit the base of the post. Rachel Brantley had a free kick that was also close, Megan Deshazo went in an had a great opportunity but the Redlands goalkeeper had an amazing save and denied Deshazo's goal. The redlands had zero shots on goal during the first half and barely crossed the half line. It was until the 21st minute markl that Morgan Medina took a shot from the left side and the ball went in. However in the second half Northern looked more relaxed than normal and didn't create that many chances and they allowed Redlands to get good opportunities to score. Although at the first seconds of the second half Megan Mayfield stole a ball from a defender to dribble the goalie out of the box and take a shot that dramatically barely missed. Asare again had a good shot that went to the goalkeepers hands. Megan Deshazo was the most active forward with 5 total shots and 3 on goal. Northern second goal came after the referee called a foul on Morgyn Knell in the box and Aubrey Welker converted to be her 3rd goal of the season. Towards the end of the game Redlands had an oppotunity to score off a free kick but Monica Davis had an amazing save to secure her second shutout of the season. Davis registered 4 saves in the game.

With this result Northern moves to 6-1 (2-0) and will visit NEO on Sunday at 3PM.

Capitan Kariss Dunson impressions: "In the first half I believe we did very well in combining and finding through balls. Our passes were very crisp and to feet which allowed us to create 1-2 touch passes. Coming into second half we were too relaxed. It seemed extra hard to find our forwards up top. We also struggled with stepping with a purpose and coming in strong for tackles. As the game went on it was noticeable that some players stopped playing which put the rest of us in danger. All in all this is not the best game we've had but we certainly get back to work next practice and be ready to play our next game".

Starting XI: Monica Davis, Kariss Dunson, Aubrey Welker, Morgan Medina, Marybel Garcia, Rebekah Brantley, Rachel Brantley, Morgyn Knell, Mayra Vega, Gifty Ayew Asare, Megan Meyfield.
