NOC Lady Mav Profile: Ally Jennings

NOC Lady Mav Profile: Ally Jennings

Ally Jennings is a sophomore from Ponca City on the Lady Mavs in 2019-20

 Why you chose NOC?

For me I chose NOC because it was close to home, and I liked the small class sizes.

What is your major and what are your career goals?

My current major is Pre-Med but once I go to a four-year school it will be Biology. I want to become a Physicians Assistant.

Is it challenging to balance academics and athletics at NOC?

I have had no problems balancing my classes and basketball. All the classes are just the right size to where I feel like I can ask my professors questions and almost all of them are flexible with my basketball schedule.

What life experiences have helped you in college athletics?

This year during season I had some circumstances that caused nerve damage in my ears leading to me having to get hearing aids. Although it wasn't an ideal situation for a 20-year-old, I was so thankful to have my coaches and teammates to turn to and lean on. It has helped me to work through adversity and realize that there are much worse things that can happen in life.

What is different about college athletics versus high school athletics?

Something that I found is different is just the level of athletes. In high school you would most likely only have 2-3 standouts on one team whereas in college, everyone is good. It pushes you to be better and work harder so that you can hold your own.

What advise would you give high school students in choosing a college or university?

My advice would be to go someone where you feel is right instead of worrying about how big or nice the school is. Going to a NJCAA college is not a bad thing and some of the best athletes in the game right now are NJCAA products. Also try and meet the team because your teammates will soon become the people you spend every day with. It is so true when people say that your teammates become your family. I know that I will stay friends with my current teammates forever.

What do you do in your spare time?

Even though I'm somewhat forced to be with my teammates everyday already for practice, I still spend all my free time with them. Whether we are all together doing homework, or going out to eat, or watching movies in the dorm, we are always together. I definitely wouldn't want it any other way and I'm so thankful NOC basketball brought me lifelong friendships like these.
