Lady Mavs lose to Cowley 71-64

The Northern Oklahoma College Lady Mavs rallied from 16 points down in the 4th quarter but fell to Cowley College 61-54 Tuesday night at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.

NOC (2-8) was led by Chideyah Guyton with 15 points while Carlee Murray, Hannah Maples, and Radina Zhivachka had 10 points each.

"Our first line of defense was good," said coach Greg Krause.  "Our defense has been steadily improving. There are times we need to finish up those defensive possessions more aggressively."

"What hurt us the most offensively was our turnovers (31)," Krause added.  "While we're adjusting to our point guard injuries, we have to be more assertive on the ball, and making ourselves available to the ball. The countdown is on to conference play on Monday."

The Lady Tigers built their largest lead at 54-38 but the Lady Mavs went on a 14-3 run cutting the lead to 57-52 with :32 left.

Cowley then made four late free throws to seal the win.

Maples led the Lady Mavs with seven rebounds while Murray added six.  Celeste Moore had four assists while Guyton added three steals for NOC.

The Lady Mavs lost to Cowley (8-0) on Nov. 6.

NOC hosts Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21.
