The Northern Oklahoma College Lady Mavs split two games in the Maverick Classic this past weekend.

NOC (2-4) beat Allen 81-74 Saturday night after losing to Southwestern (IA) 70-69 Friday night.

Lady Mavs 81, Allen 74

Carlee Murray led four Lady Mavs in double figures in an 81-74 win over Allen County.

NOC led the first three quarters before Allen rallied from 12 points down to 74-70 with :50 remaining.

The Lady Mavs then clinched the game at the line hitting 7 of 8 in the game's final minute.

"It was another tough game with Allen," said coach Greg Krause.  "Their size and shooters present a tough challenge for our defense, but I thought our defense and rebounding improved from Friday night. Cassie Manning and Carlee Murray shot well, and Caitlin Bailey filled in for an injured Mia Brown and hit some big free throws in the last few minutes of a tight game."

Murray had 14 points while Cassie Manning had 12 points off the Lady Mavs bench.  Celeste Moore and Hannah Maples had 10 points each.  Maples led NOC with 12 rebounds and five assists.

Southwestern (IA) 70, Lady Mavs 69

The NOC Lady Mavs rallied from 67-60 in the game's final two minutes but fell short losing 70-69.

The game was tied at 48-48 when Southwestern built a 57-48 lead.  NOC rallied all the way back to 60-60 but then went down 67-60.

Moore made two free throws, Manning and Maples hit 3-pointers to cut into the lead but the Lady Mavs fell just short.

Maples led the Lady Mavs with 21 points while Mia Brown added 17.  Maples added 10 rebounds Moore had five assists and four steals.

"Hannah Maples had a career-like performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds," Krause said.  "It was a close loss to a team that hit some big shots down the stretch. We're continuing to learn consistency through all four quarters, but we had some high points to build upon."
