IOLA, Kansas -- The NOC Lady Mavs split two games in Iola, Kansas, at the Allen Classic this past weekend in the season opener.

The Lady Mavs beat host Allen 89-81 in overtime Saturday after losing to Highland 120-58 on Friday.

Mia Brown had 22 in the Lady Mavs win Saturday while Cassie Manning led NOC against Highland with 11.

Hannah Maples led the Lady Mavs with 13 rebounds against Allen while Radina Zhivachka led with seven boards against Highland.

Coach Greg Krause commented on the two opening season games.

"We bounced back with a good effort Saturday night," Krause said.  "We rebounded better and kept our composure running offense. There was good progress from the first game to the second game. We handled the season's first overtime experience with poise on the opponent's home court."

"Highland has a very good team," Krause said of the opening season opponent. "Their full court pressure affected our offensive opportunities, and they have one of the best guards in the nation who hit 12 3-pointers and scored 47 points. We tried to guard her but she was feeling it that game."

NOC is at Cowley College in Arkansas City Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
